Center for Epidemic Preparedness (CEP)

Vision

The Center for Epidemic Preparedness (CEP) develops innovative technologies for prophylactic vaccines and therapeutics, and establishes platforms to support their advancement. CEP also serves as a central hub for interdisciplinary research on newly emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases within KAIST.

Research Theme

Study of Host Responses to Newly Emerging Viruses

  • Performed single-cell RNA sequencing of blood leukocytes from patients with various viral infections.
  • Identified gene expression signatures specific to each viral disease.
  • Developed a screening platform to repurpose inflammation-modifying agents.

Characterization of T Cells Reactive to Newly Emerging Viruses

  • Conducted phenotypic and functional characterization of T cells responsive to newly emerging viruses.
  • Investigated the roles of T cells in severe and critical viral diseases.
  • Explored cross-reactive T cells present in uninfected individuals.

Development of Prophylactic Vaccines Against Newly Emerging Viruses

  • Identified conserved antigens across viral species.
  • Designed strategies to utilize these conserved antigens as vaccine candidates.
  • Developed vaccines targeting a broad spectrum of newly emerging viruses.
