Prof. Jung Kim's project has been selected to the research project for Public Welfare Safety

The Research Project for Public Welfare and Safety is one of the national research projects which starts this year in order to develop core technologies in the areas of aging friendly, overcoming obstacles and social & natural disaster safety to improve the quality of Korean's life. Selected research teams will be financially supported for 5 years from 1.2 billion won up to 1.4 billion won per year.

Prof. Jung Kim's project "Development of a supporting manipulation system by real-time motion intent estimation for the elderly and disabled" has been selected to this national research projects. The final goal of this project is to develop fundamental technologies for assisting insufficient motor and sensory abilities of the physically disabled or elderly by powered wearable supporters.

The output of this project will improve the quality of life for the physically disabled and elderly by assisting their insufficient physical performances with the powered wearable devices. This outcomes also offer opportunities to transform paradigms and create breakthrough in our society that could revolutionize the function and community participation of people with physical and sensory impairments. The technical spin-off effects of this research can be beneficial for the broad areas because the related technologies of this project include residual function/sensory modeling, human-machine interaction, cognitive science, biomechanics, sensor technologies, rehabilitation engineering, and robotics.

김정 교수(Complex System 설계 연구소) 2010년도 공공복지안전연구사업 선정

공공복지안전연구사업은 국민의 삶의 질 향상을 위해 고령친화, 장애극복, 사회․재해안전 분야의 핵심기술을 개발하고자 올해부터 시행하는 국책연구사업으로 선정된 연구단들에게는 연간 12~14억원 내외로 5년간 지원한다.

김정 교수의 “고령자/장애인의 동작의도 감지에 기반한 부하보조 매니플레이션 기술 개발”과제가 2010년도 공공복지안전연구사업에 선정되어 생체신호 추출을 통해 고령자/장애인에게 맞춤형 보조가 가능한 인체 착용형 부하보조 매니퓰레이션 기술 개발을 목표로 연구를 진행하게 되었다.

본 연구는 동작 의도 인식, 근육 모델링, 상호작용제어 등에 대한 원천기술을 제공할 것이다. 특히 본 연구의 관련 기술은 생체신호처리, 인간-기계 상호작용, 운동학, 제어 및 로보틱스 등의 융합기술이며 이들은 국가기술전략상 중요시되는 핵심 원천 기술이므로 응용 기술분야에 파급효과가 클 것이다. 그리고 생체신호를 통한 고령자 및 장애인의 상지부 동작의도 및 부하 예측 기법은 세계적으로도 초기연구단계에서 도약하는 시기에 불과하므로 본 연구를 통해 핵심 기술을 선도하고 크게 성장하고 있는 관련 시장에서 경제적 가치를 창출할 것이다. 또한, 본 연구에서 제시한 생체신호 측정 및 의도 추출 기술은 표면 근전도로 대변되는 현재의 근력측정 시장에 대안을 제시함으로써 스포츠공학 분야에도 적용될 수 있으며, 재활 분야로의 추가적인 연구를 통해 편리하고 효과적인 재활 훈련이 가능한 착용형 재활 훈련 장치로 응용이 가능하다.
